We are Anzac and Kaylene, owners and hosts of Fialupe Beach House. Anzac Day (offical name) was born and raised in Samoa and his village of Salamumu, while Kaylene is Australian and moved to Samoa in 2014. We married in 2017 and have one son whom will be sure to want to meet you. For our personal home up in the village, we hand cleared a spot of family land, and built our home together. Now surrounded with taro, yams, banana, papaya, breadfruit, coco, tropical garden and our much loved pigs – True village life! We live a few minutes away from the Beach House in the village.
Anzac’s family history goes back generations in our village, and childhood memories of growing up surrounded by family, extended family, aunties and uncles. He is one of many Matai’s (chiefs) in the village. His title is of an Orator (a speaker) and he represents his late Dad’s side of the family. After his father passed, Anzac and his seven siblings were raised by his mother Fialupe. We named the beach house in honor to her.
Our Village
Salamumu Village originated from the Samoan Island of Savaii, from Sale’aula village. The Samoan Government had the people relocated to the Samoan Island of Upolu during the 1905—1911 Volcano eruption. The village name of Salamumu is derived from the words sala (fire) and mumu (punishment), referring to the eruption. The people of Salamumu still have strong kinship cultural ties to their land on Savai’i.
